Install guide

From domain to a live site in about 20 minutes.

No developer needed. Seven short steps, each with a picture of exactly what you will see. If you already have WordPress, jump to step 4.

  • A domainyourname.com, usually bought with hosting.
  • WordPress hostingAny ordinary plan with PHP 8.4.
  • belo.zipFree, about 3.9 MB.
  • A Pro keyOptional. Belo Free works without one.

1Step 1 · ~5 min

Get a domain and hosting

Pick any web host that offers one-click WordPress and PHP 8.4. Search for your name, choose the cheapest WordPress plan and pay. Most hosts include the domain and an SSL certificate for free in the first year.

  • The smallest plan is enough. Belo sites are light and fast.
  • Already own a domain elsewhere? Choose “use my own domain” at checkout.
  • Hosting and domains straight from Belo are coming soon.
Any host works. This is what most checkouts look like.

2Step 2 · ~2 min

Switch PHP to 8.4

In your hosting panel open PHP settings (sometimes called “PHP version” or “PHP manager”), choose 8.4 and save. Belo needs it to run.

  • Can’t find it? Send this to your host’s support:
Please switch my site to PHP 8.4.
The menu name differs between hosts; the version number doesn’t.

3Step 3 · ~3 min

Install WordPress with one click

In the same panel find the app installer (“WordPress”, “1-click install” or “Softaculous”), pick your domain and press Install. Write down the admin e-mail and password it asks for. You will log in with them in the next step.

  • Your WordPress admin lives at yourname.com/wp-admin.
  • Skip any extra plugins or themes the installer offers. Belo doesn’t need them.
Usually under a minute.

4Step 4 · ~2 min

Upload Belo to WordPress

Download belo.zip and keep it zipped. In WordPress go to:

  1. Plugins
  2. Add New Plugin
  3. Upload Plugin
  4. Install Now
  5. Activate Plugin
  • Choose the file belo.zip itself, not an unzipped folder.
  • “File too large”? See common problems.
WordPress 6.5 or newer.

5Step 5 · ~1 min

Open Belo Studio and click to edit

A new item Belo Studio appears in the WordPress menu. Open it. You see your site as visitors do: click any text or image to change it, then press Publish.

  • Nothing goes live until you publish.
  • Built your site with AI? Import it from Studio in a few clicks.
Studio works in any modern browser.

6Step 6 · optional

Add your Pro key

Belo Free never expires and nothing on your site gets locked. If you buy Belo Pro, you get a licence key by e-mail. Paste it in Studio → Settings → Belo Pro and press Activate.

  • Pro adds AI editing (Claude, MCP), a shop, recipes, more people and import.
  • One key covers 1, 3, 50 or unlimited sites, depending on the plan.
  • Belo Pro goes on sale soon. See pricing.
The key in the picture is an example.

7Step 7 · done

Your site is live

Open yourname.com. That is your site, served fast and secure. From now on you change it in Belo Studio and press Publish. That’s all.

  • A new domain can take up to a few hours to work everywhere.
  • Belo updates itself from WordPress like any other plugin.
yourname.com is a placeholder for your own domain.

Troubleshooting

Common problems

“The uploaded file exceeds the upload limit”

Your host allows smaller uploads than belo.zip needs. Ask support to raise the upload limit to 16 MB, or unzip belo.zip on your computer and upload the belo folder to wp-content/plugins with the host’s file manager. Then activate it under Plugins.

An error right after I click Activate

Almost always the PHP version is too old. Go back to step 2, switch to PHP 8.4 and activate again. Your site is not damaged; WordPress simply refused to turn the plugin on.

I don’t see Belo Studio in the menu

Check that Belo is activated under Plugins and that you are logged in as an Administrator. Then reload the page.

Do I need Belo Pro?

No. Belo Free includes Studio, editing, publishing, SEO and speed, forever. Pro adds AI editing, a shop, recipes, more people and import. If Pro ever lapses, nothing breaks.

Can Belo host my site for me?

Not yet. Hosting and domains from Belo are coming soon. Until then Belo runs on any ordinary WordPress hosting with PHP 8.4.

Ready?

Start with the free plugin.

Or try Belo in your browser first, without installing anything.
